Following the announcement that Manchester’s internationally acclaimed cancer centre, The Christie, has launched a fundraising appeal with the aim of building a dedicated local cancer centre in the grounds of Macclesfield District General Hospital, Thorneycroft Solicitors are proud to announce that we will be taking part in several fundraising events and initiatives in order to help the charity with their fundraising appeal.
The Christie is seeking to raise £23 million in order to build the new centre. The vision for the new centre is a state of the art facility providing more than 1,500 cancer patients with Christie cancer care closer to home, cutting down travel time and giving those in the East Cheshire area the opportunity to access new treatments as they become available.
Over the course of the coming year, our team will be taking part in sponsored runs and hosting a variety of fundraising activities in a bid to raise as much money as possible in order to help make The Christie in Macclesfield a reality.
The firm will also be donating all proceeds from our in-office coffee machine which has so far raised £325 in its first month.
As a Macclesfield based firm, we are committed to assisting the local community and we are looking forward to doing all we can as a firm to help cancer patients in Macclesfield and the wider East Cheshire area benefit from this excellent new facility.
Whilst some cancer care is currently available in Macclesfield, many patients travel to The Christie in South Manchester for most of their appointments, which can mean that some patients face the prospect of a journey lasting more than 2 hours each way, causing added stress and anxiety for both the patient and their family at an already challenging time.

For those unfamiliar with The Christie, they are the largest single-site cancer centre in Europe, treating more than 44,000 patients each year.
They are also the first UK centre to be officially accredited as a comprehensive cancer centre and serve a population of 3.2 million people across the Greater Manchester and Cheshire area.
