A man who was found guilty of assaulting his partner and causing criminal damage has been spared jail by magistrates.
On December 5 the defendant was sentenced to a 12-month supervision requirement at Sefton Magistrates’ Court.
He was found guilty by trial to assaulting his partner on May 18. The court heard how the dispute, fuelled by alcohol, began in a bar where the couple had a confrontation in the toilets over whether to go home.
The defendant punched his partner a number of times about the face and body while at the bar – causing pain, discomfort and bruising to his left eye and arm.
Magistrates heard how the defendant returned to the home of the victim because he was “tired and wanted to go to sleep” and was “living there at the time.” Unable to get into the premises the defendant caused criminal damage by smashing a window, breaking a door lock and by scratching “loser” into the paintwork of Mr Caldwell’s car and rolling around on it hysterically. The total damage amounted to more than £500.
The defendant was ordered to pay £508 for the criminal damage to his partner’s property, £585 in court costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
