Yet another big hospital Trust fails to heave itself out of special measures.
The North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust, which runs the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven and the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle, was inspected recently by the Care Quality Commission.
The healthcare watchdog rated the care provided by medical staff at the trust as good, but found four areas still needing improvement which included safety, effectiveness, responsiveness and leadership.
Because only one of the five areas were rated as good, that meant the Trust has overall rating of ‘needing improvement’ and will remain in special measures until these areas are up to standard.
