A cyclist has been seriously injured after colliding with a vehicle on a busy bridge. The accident happened during rush hour at about 8.20 am and the road had to be closed to allow an air ambulance to land.
Emergency services responded quickly to the incident to find a cyclist had sustained serious head injuries after a collision. After assessing the cyclist’s condition it was decided that an air ambulance was needed to transport the cyclist quickly to a trauma unit for emergency treatment.
The bridge was closed for vehicles for several hours whilst police investigated the accident and was reopened later that morning.
The cyclist’s condition is thought to be serious but not life threatening at this stage.
