Simon joined Thorneycrofts in May 2019 as Costs and Commercial Manager, bringing more than 20 years of experience in personal injury and litigation. Having worked on high-value and complex cases throughout his career, he went on to become Head of the firm’s Clinical Negligence Department.
Simon has extensive expertise in costs law. His experience includes working as a tutor for the Association of Law Costs Draftsmen, preparing a report for both Houses of Parliament during the debate on the Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act, and providing an expert response to the Civil Justice Council on guideline hourly rates.
Throughout his career, Simon has specialised in costs drafting, costs negotiations, and advocacy at court hearings. He also has considerable knowledge of civil procedure, regulatory compliance, retainer documentation, legal expenses insurance, and Conditional Fee Agreements.
Known for his calm, methodical, and approachable manner, Simon combines technical expertise with practical commercial insight, enabling him to provide clear, effective advice to clients and colleagues alike.
In his spare time, he says that he plays guitar with the enthusiasm, and skill, of a small child.
