Mr X, who was aged 41 at the time of his accident, was knocked off his motorbike by another driver who pulled out of a side road. He suffered a severe traumatic brain injury with right sided hemiplegia causing lack of co-ordination of his right leg and arm, clawing of the toes on the right foot and abnormal gait. He also suffered a ligament injury to his right knee, soft tissue injury to his left shoulder, arm, elbow and thumb as well as psychological injuries in the form of low mood, depression and frustration about his day to day limitations. His brain injury caused cognitive impairments in verbal memory, new learning ability and executive skills and the combination of injuries caused him severe fatigue. There was concern about his future employment security.
