As some of you may already know, here at Thorneycroft we are specialist motorcyclist solicitors. Our head office is located in Macclesfield meaning we are amongst some of the most popular motorcyclist routes in the UK, including the Cat and Fiddle. With such popular routes on our doorstep, we have developed relationships with local motorcycle safety organisations and motorcycle groups. With these relationships has come an unravelled understanding of the needs of motorcyclists who may have been injured in a motorbike accident.
We are incredibly proud to work with some of the UK’s leading motorcycle safety organisations, we want to be able to offer our clients the best possible rehabilitative care as well as ensuring that motorcyclists have the knowledge and skills they need to ride as safely as possible. So, who are the motorcycle safety organisations that we work with and what do they do?
Upright Derbyshire is a motorcycle organisation with a difference, it was set up by Tom Rowlands an ex-police officer with over 17 years of experience in the police force in response to the rising number of accidents and fatalities involving bikers in and around Derbyshire. The organisation that is made up of avid bikers recognises the importance of motorcycle safety and they regularly attend events, they take an informative approach and rather than lecturing bikers they simply get to know them.
The ultimate goal for Upright Derbyshire is to encourage bikers to better themselves, whether that is through research into appropriate safety clothing, increasing their road awareness or investing in further training.
The Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes is an umbrella organisation that represents 36 smaller groups across the UK and Ireland. Created in 2008 the organisation came about as a result of a meeting between the few blood bike groups in the UK at the same. There was a realisation that a blood bike service would be of huge benefit to the NHS across the whole of the UK. Since this realisation, The Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes has continued to expand and they now collectively respond to over 100,000 requests from the NHS annually.
Biker Down Derbyshire works to reduce the number of motorcyclists killed or seriously injured in road traffic collisions through education and awareness. Biker Down is a 3 hour long free course that has been created to cover accident scene management, first aid and how to become more visible as a motorcyclist. They have partnered with Upright Derbyshire’s campaign to offer local motorcyclists the chance to improve their safety awareness.
The British Motorcycle Federation is a well-respected group that was first created in the 1960s, they exist to safeguard the rights of motorcyclists across the UK. They are a non-profit organisation that is managed by motorcycle lovers, they work to ensure the safety and security of motorcyclists.
The Staffordshire Biker Breakfast events were created by motorcycle lovers and safety campaigners and they aim to create events where bikers can go and engage with other bikers and organisations. They offer out lots of ‘Think Bike’ booklets and Staffordshire County Council’s road safety unit is often present to offer motorcyclists their top tips for staying safe on the roads.
Belle Vue Speedway is the longest continually operating Speedway club in the world. Their team, Belle Vue Aces race regularly in their purpose-built stadium in Gorton. The race team are kitted out in tailor-made Kevlar race suits and racing boots to protect their bodies.
Midlands Riders are the UK’s number 1 ride out-group. They host group ride outs for motorcyclists across the UK providing events for families, lone riders and children. They aim to create an environment for like-minded people to meet safely and they are proud to be the UK’s most diverse biking group that welcomes any bike, any age, gender and faith.
Last but not least is Thorneycroft 56 Racing. They are a team of British Superbike riders that compete across the UK.
