An employee was caught stealing £4,163 from her bosses over a 17 month period. She took money on 11 separate occasions before the company realised the theft.
The company responded quickly by sacking the employee and contacted the Police to initiated criminal proceedings.
The woman was sentenced in court to prison for six months but avoided jail with a suspended sentence for 12 months and was ordered to do 120 hour unpaid work and pay every penny back to her employer.
It is very rare that an employee should commit criminal offences at their place of work but if you have any concerns about any of your employees conduct then you should seek immediate legal advice with regards to their employment at your company and how to protect yourself from further criminal acts.
At Thorneycroft Solicitors, we have the Thorneycroft Employment Shield and HR service which gives companies access to expert support and advice from the Thorneycroft Employment Team whenever it’s needed and much more besides.
