Ambulance crews were called to attend a two car smash were by one driver had sustained facial injuries and the other driver was trapped in her car with serious injuries.
The accident happened around 6pm at a busy junction with an A road and the impact of the accident left the female driver trapped in her car for nearly 90 mins whilst fire crews tried to safely free her from the wreckage. After being carefully removed from the vehicle, she was taken to a major trauma unit where she was treated for spinal, pelvic and leg injuries.
The other driver was treated for facial injuries and referred to a specialist hospital unit.
An Ambulance Service spokesperson commented: “Crews were called to reports of a two car road traffic collision.
“On arrival at the scene crews found a man, believed to be the driver of one of the vehicles out of his car and a woman of a second car who was trapped in her vehicle.
“Emergency services worked closely together for approximately an hour and a half to safely extricate the woman from her vehicle. The woman was treated for leg, pelvic and spinal injuries. She was given pain relief and fully immobilised at the scene.
“The trauma doctor travelled on board the ambulance continuing to provide emergency medical treatment to the woman whilst en route to hospital.”
