TV Start Marc Summers Recovering after Serious Car Accident

Food Network start Marc Summers has been told he is lucky to be alive after a serious car accident that has destroyed one side of his face.

The 60-year-old TV man was in a taxi in Philadelphia last week after shooting an episode of his own personal show Unwrapped.

However typhoon-like rain caused the cab to hydroplane and Summers smashed in to the plastic partion between the driver and the backseat of the vehicle.

“Everything on the left side [of my face] from my eye socket down was just wiped out,” Summers revealed.

“My eye socket got all swollen. I’m having trouble seeing completely out of the left eye … There’s lots of titanium and screws in my face.”

The TV star was rushed to hospital and underwent a total of four hour-long operations with a skilled plastic surgeon.

“I was on the phone with my supervising producer and I said, ‘Oh my God, we’re going to crash!’ Next thing I knew, I woke up and had blood all over me.”

Despite the horrendous experience, Summers is expected to make a full recovery in a matter of months.

He used his Twitter account to thank everyone for their support, and update them on the progress his recovery each day.
