A construction worker from Yeovil has been left with serious injuries after a life-changing accident at work.
The 40-year-old, who wishes to remain unnamed, suffered shattered bones and was close to losing his foot after an accident in September 2010.
The company has now been fined for the accident after it was deemed to be their fault by the Health and Safety Executive.
A court in Yeovil heard this week how the worker was inspecting a fall of external drains pipes when a he was knocked down by the front right stabiliser of a telehandler that was driving towards him.
An investigation found that Brookvale Homes Ltd had failed to manage the safe movement of pedestrians and its vehicles around the contraction side due to the fact there were no designated walkways in place.
“This was a very serious and preventable incident. Luckily an extensive operation saved the worker’s foot. However, this was now over a year ago and he has required further operations and treatment and is still unable to return to work,” said a spokesperson from the investigation team.
The company was fined a total of £10,000 for the work accident and were also ordered to page more than £7,000 in costs.
