A contractor has been badly injured by machinery as he worked on a Tube station platform in the early hours on Saturday morning. He was carrying out improvement work at the time when a machine’s brakes appeared to fail, crushing the workers pelvis against platform.
The HSE (Health and Safety Executive) is now investigating the incident and the ToL (Transport for London) to ensure there was no breach of health and safety laws.
Emergency crews freed the 30 year old man and he was then taken to hospital for urgent treatment. An Ambulance spokesperson said:
“We were called at 4.13am on Saturday to reports of an incident at …. Underground station. We sent two ambulance crews and a team from the Air Ambulance. We treated a man at the scene for a pelvic injury.”
The true extent of the contractors injuries are not confirmed although there are concerns as to whether he will be able to walk again.
