A couple are going to the High Court to legally challenge a law preventing opposite sexes entering into a civil partnership. They argue that section 1 of the Civil Partnership Act is discriminatory as it only allows couples of the same sex to enter civil partnerships.
The couple allege that the law contravenes Article 14 of the European Convention on Human Rights. The partners are Rebecca Steinfeld and Charles Keidan who are not married as they don’t believe in marriage but want the same legal rights and recognition afforded to married couples and civil partnerships.
