Police were forced to close a lane of the golden Valley bypass in Gloucestershire after a crash involving a car and a cyclist.
The rider suffered serious injuries in the smash but it is not thought that they are life-threatening.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital in a stable condition.
The driver of the Alfa Romeo was uninjured in the accident.
The road remained closed while police investigated the cause of the accident.
It is not yet known if there was anyone to blame for the accident but specialists predict that if the accident was the fault of the driver, the cyclist could be entitled to compensation.
