A ex-firefighter who suffered serious injuries when a runaway car drove into the tent he was camping in has been given compensation four years after it happened.
the 44-year-old from Bridgewater in Somerset had to have surgery on his spine as a result of the accident and also had to retire from services on health grounds.
His wife, who was sharing the tent with him at the time of the accident was also injured.
The accident was like a waking nightmare and we are just fortunate that we both didn’t suffer more serious injures and that our daughter wasn’t in the tent with us,” said the accident victim.
“It has taken me a long time to come to terms with my injuries. I realise now that I’m never going to be 100 per cent and it is disappointing that I had to give up my duties with the fire service. I was never going to be able to manage the physical aspects of the job.”
The amount of compensation awarded to the man has not been revealed, but it is though it will be at least a 5-figure sum.
