An Essex man is being treated for serious head injuries after he was attacked in a street near his home.
The attack happened in Queens Road, Hastings just before 10pm on Saturday.
Police told reporters that the 52-year-old was taken to hospital but made clear that his head injuries were not life-threatening.
Officers have now appealed to anyone that was in the area at the time to come forward and help them with their investigation.
They said that they would particularly like to talk to a couple who were in a maroon car who stopped briefly on the road just after the incident happened.
A local shop keeper told press how the attack was out of character for the area: “I’ve been here over 5 years and never heard of an attack like this.”
“Its shocking to hear that it happened on the same street as my shop.”
“I wish the gentleman all the best with his recovery”
The man’s condition is currently stable and he is expected to make a full recovery.
