A dentist is to be sued by a number of patients after it was revealed he exposed them to cross contamination including HIV and hepatitis B and C. The dentist was exposed by a whistle-blower who claimed he used dirty equipment which exposed approx. 6,000 patients.
After an investigation by the General Dental Council (GDC) the dentist has been struck off the dental register for poor practice and it was revealed that this was the second time he has been told he can’t practice.
The GDC offered all the surgeries patients free testing to find out if any of his clients had been infected and fortunately the numbers who tested for Hepatitis was very low, only 4. However, as a result of the dentist’s dismissal he is now being sued by a number of ex patients who feel they have cause to sue him for the risk he exposed them to, the emotional distress and potential life threatening infection they may have contracted through his negligence.
According to the Daily Record, approximately 600 patients are potentially suing the former dentist which could lead to over a million pounds in compensation claims.
A former patient said: “I am delighted he has been struck off.
“I just hope it’s for life this time. I am still furious at what he put me and fellow patients through.
“It’s pure luck that hundreds or thousands of his patients were not infected. I still find the way he operated to be beyond belief.”
