Sadly, violence outside pubs and clubs is becoming more common. There are stories almost on a weekly basis covering incidents where Emergency services have attended to deal with a badly injured person who has been the victim of an assault.
Only recently, Police were called to attend a pub car park where a ‘particularly nasty’ assault had taken place where two men were left unconscious with serious injuries.
According to witnesses the men were just enjoying a drink with friends and were attacked by a gang as they left the pub. Both men suffered serious facial injuries and were left unconscious.
Detective Inspector said: “This was a particularly nasty assault on two men who were enjoying a drink with friends.
“Thankfully incidents of this nature are very rare but I want to reassure the public that we are doing everything we can to trace the people responsible.
“We would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of the …. Hotel or may have seen a silver or white Mercedes car in the area either before or after the assault to contact us.”
If you are physically assaulted then your first port of call should always be the Police but you may also be entitled to criminal injuries compensation.
Criminal injury and assault claims are different to most other personal injury claims. In other areas of personal injury the 3rd party insurers will usually agree to pay an amount after deliberation with the personal injury solicitor. With a criminal injury claim there are 25 levels of compensation and the award is determined by the injuries suffered and the level of assault.
Criminal injuries are compensated for by the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA). At Thorneycroft Solicitors our criminal injury team are specially trained and have a full understanding of the scheme and compensation rules in order to ensure a successful outcome for our clients.
You may be able to claim for a range of different items, including pain and suffering, loss of earnings, medical costs, personal effects and out of pocket expenses.
We offer a free initial interview in order to review your specific circumstances and assess the viability of your personal injury claim.
