A man is fighting for his life after a motorbike accident left him in intensive care with life-threatening injuries.
The motorcyclist who is in his 20s was involved in a collision with a car and suffered what police described as “catastrophic injuries.”
He remains in a critical condition and his family have been informed of the incident.
A member of the Collision Investigation Unit said: “Enquiries into this collision are in their early stages and we are keen to trace any witnesses who can help us to piece together exactly what happened.”
“The female driver of the car was uninjured and stopped at the scene; she is helping officers with their enquiries” he added.
A spokesperson for the ambulance service said: “Exactly what happened was not clear but the rider was found a short distance from the bike he had been on.”
“The man had suffered very serious chest and facial injuries. Ambulance staff and the doctor from the aircraft carried out a number of procedures at the scene to stabilise his condition.”
“He was then anaesthetised, immobilised and had a pelvic binder put in place before being taken on blue lights by land ambulance to the major trauma centre”
The cause of the accident is as yet unknown.
