Headway – why are we corporate members?

Being a corporate member of Headway, the brain injury association, is very important to us at Thorneycroft solicitors for a number of reasons. We have worked with many people whose lives have been changed forever, following accidents on the roads or at work. We see, first hand, how devastating brain injuries can be to victims and their families and so we feel strongly that it is vital to have an organisation to specifically support brain injury survivors, emotionally, physically and sometimes financially, in their time of need.

Headway is a charity that supports brain injury survivors in many different ways. Here are just a few of the services this wonderful organisation provides:

• a freephone helpline -0808 800 2244- which is there for families and people with brain injury’s at any time for any reason;
• an informative and interactive website containing relevant information and fact sheets;
• a range of printed booklets and publications designed to help educate people about how to cope with the effects of brain injury;
• an emergency fund to help people cope with their finances following a brain injury;
• Headway Acute Trauma Support (HATS) nurses who are an amazing resource as they support worried families and loved ones of those who are in the acute stage of care following a brain injury;
• 125 groups and branches which support those with brain injuries with their physical, cognitive and social rehabilitation and they also provide support to their families;
• A useful directory of approved residential homes, rehabilitation units and respite facilities specialising in ABI;
• The charity also lobbies the government for better support and resources to be made available.

Brain injury can challenge every aspect of your life – walking, talking, thinking and feeling – and the losses can be severe and permanent. It can mean losing both the life you once lived and the person you once were. We are proud to be part of a charity that makes such a positive impact to people’s lives who are living with a brain injury.
