The NHS has paid out more than £2m in compensation to victims of a surgeon at Rotherham Hospital. The Hospital has agreed damages settlements for four former patients of an orthopaedic surgeon totalling just over £1m since last summer.
A total of £1,058,784 has already been paid out relating to 13 earlier claims. Rotherham Hospital admitted liability in all four of the recently settled claims.
Legal actions is being taken by over 30 families against a hospital in Cumbria as a result of poor can and alleged medical negligence relating to baby and maternal deaths and injuries.
Furness General Hospital at Morecambe Bay the subject numerous investigations and a police inquiry.
Official statistics show hospitals, primary care and mental health trusts in Lancashire shelled out nearly £11m more in 2011/12 than in 2010/11.
This included a seven figure sum paid to the family of a teenager, who was left paralysed from the chest down following an operation to correct a curvature of her spine in 2005.
